You need to reduce nitrates and your lights and feeding, you could pull some of it out by hand/tweezers?

Just updated pics of the macroalgae up to now. Eventually I will have to trim back the larger one.

The macroalgae is getting a bit too much for my 6 gal. I split it in two and put the other half in a jar near a window. Will this be sufficient enough to keep it alive or will it need additional nutrients to survive?

I would think it needs extra nutrients to survive but you can give it a try, you could try plant fertiliser with it? Just don't add any ferts to the shrimp tank.
