Oh wow that’s awesome!! Yeah that will buffer your water nicely. With the ammonia expect a good week or 2 for it to start showing any thing. A good way to spot some nitrifying bacteria development is to test for Nitrites.

I've upped the tank (approx 20ltr water) to 75*F
195gm Marine Salt = SG 1012
16/2/18 --------- 5ml API Quick Start
19/2/18 ---------- x10 drops Ammonium Chloride
API Ammonia test = 2 ppm
21/2/18
API ph test = 7.8
API Ammonia test = 1ppm
API Nitrite test = 0.15 ?

Tested Ammonia today still the same.
It would be nice if the Bacteria were 1cm each  the ammount of care and attention they're getting
at leased there'd be something to watch

Hi pentux, this is all new for me, set up 20ltr tank with RO water and Marine salt to SG 1.012 added API Quick Start, Ammonia 0,
added x10 drops Dr. Tims Ammonium Chloride, Ammonia 2ppm - 2 days later Ammonia 1ppm
I'm now waiting for the Nitrite to start rising and the Ammonia to fall towards 0 then I'll add some more Ammonium Chloride and wait for the Ammonia and Nitrates to rise and fall again
then check the Nitates and wait for Algae to start growing when it does if the Nitrates are still rising I'll add some Chaeto Macro Algae
I've no rush to get Shrim till it all seems stable and at the moment the weather is below freezing so not a good time to post Shrimp.
Cheers Danny

Nice background! Instead of a picture of a plant, you have a real one. :)

wife - don't look all innocent, you've taken it for that Bl**dy tank havent you
me - yes love but the Shrimp will like it
I had thought of a real fern but there's not much room and it'll need looking after

Noticed tiny patches of green Algae all over the glass this morning

wonder if having several jars of Algae growing next to the tank seeded it ?

Thought I'd do an API water test and add to the log :-

195gm Marine Salt = SG 1012
Water @ 75*F
API ph test = 7.8
16/2/18 --------- 5ml API Quick Start
19/2/18 ---------- x10 drops Ammonium Chloride
API Ammonia test = 2 ppm
21/2/18
API Ammonia test = 1 ppm
28/2/18
API Ammonia test = 1 ppm
03/3/18
API Ammonia test = 0.50 ppm
API Nitrite test = 0.50 ppm
I think the Nitrates have started as well, though not pale orange they're darker than the last pale yellow 3 days ago.

I think I'll add x10 drops of Ammonium Chloride tomorrow, or would you wait till Ammonia 0 ?
