Just an idea, you don't have to follow. Also buying smaller pieces might be better if you want to keep the larger one since it cost more. Some prefer the black lava rock than red lava rock, but that is just a preference. Have fun.

I should be able to remove the old rock soon right? The new rock has been in the tank for about 4-5 days already.
And I don't think any algae will be growing on it just like the old one. :huh:

Yes I think so since your gravel with all that surface area contains BB. There might be new algae but you cant see it.

Oh yeah! Can't wait to take out the old rock! Planning to make the tank a bit more spacious for the shrimps!

Have you thought about stacking some lava rock into a pile so you get the extra surface area of the rock but also the free tank space around it? This way you also create caves/crevices for them too.

I don't have enough space to stack rocks in my tank :( But, I stuffed a bit of shells in between the caves to make more spaces!
