My tanks are developing a green film of algae at the waters surface. I don’t have a filter or anything to move water around so it just lays there. I was thinking of using a paper towel to absorb it, but I once read the paper contains chemicals that can harm the shrimp. Any suggestions?

All my tanks have that film. The opae graze upon it. If you really don't want it you can take an air pump and add it in there for a few hours with an air stone that produces fine bubbles. The surface algae will get broken up and disapear. It will all go away but eventually come back.

If you really want to get rid of it, you can use a turkey baster and suck it up at the surface.
