Old Nerite Snail

At one point in time I thought there was one nerite snails on top another. Looks like the shell just grows this way? Granted this snail is probably getting close to 3 years old. Pretty good size for this type of nerite. I used a penny to give an idea of the size and also compared to a new nerite that I bought a few months back.

How long do nerites typically live for? I’ve often wondered as I’d hate to leave one in my tank after it died.

I would say 3 years. I've had other die with 6 months & others over 2 years. Sometimes it's hard to tell if they died especially when they just sit at the bottom of the tank. By the time I've realized it the insides are eaten so I just leave it in there.
