Opaeforms wrote: 07 Jun 2019 12:10 Just a few observations. In my last setup I never saw shrimp with such dark innards as in this setup... All the shrimp always have very dark stuff going through their digestive systems. Makes me wonder whether there was enough food in my last tank, or whether the algae is just different in this one and so looks darker once they eat it.

When I feed spirulina the poop gets dark. When I don't feed and they just eat regular algae it is light-colored. We've discussed it here. It could just mean that they now have a slightly different diet!? No worries I guess.
Opaeforms wrote: 07 Jun 2019 12:10 Also, when the shrimp are doing laps around the tank, because it's cylindrical, they can go round and round without any edges to stop them. I notice that 90% of the time, the ones that are doing laps are going clockwise. Almost never anticlockwise. Weird!

Ha! Please check out this post: SWIMMING BEHAVIOR and feel free to participate! You could also do the same with my questionnaire if you feel like it  The Opae Ula Questionnaire

When I got my cylinder tank they used to race counterclockwise like crazy!!! This went on for some months. Now they don't do it that often anymore.

Thanks Algae In Space, I filled out your questionnaire a while ago  and cheers for the link to the swimming thread. Interesting.

Here's a quick timelapse I took of them doing laps...

Great! Just like mine did.

Sorry about the questionnaire  I am losing track of all the people who did or did not participate.

Wahoo congratulations! That looks to be a good amount of eggs too! Let’s hope she keeps hold of them over the next 5 weeks.

Bit of extra info. Seems like 2 others will be berried very soon (lots of individual eggs are distinguishable inside them). Seems like the conditions have suddenly become good for breeding and now they're all going for it! Just over a month ago I moved the tank off the windowsill which gets full sun for part of the day, because it was getting too hot in the summer sun. They've been in a cool(ish) corner since then with a relatively weak artificial light. Temp stays betweens 20c to 27c. I will probably put them back on the windowsill after summer so I can view them better. It will be interesting to see if they continue to breed then.

I wonder about the light a lot. I think sunlight (direct or indirect) is best. But sadly there is no way for me to use sunlight at the moment.

My tanks get no sunlight at all, just to throw that information into the mix.

Dennis' tank just in front of his house  Must get pretty hot. But they don't seem to care.
