I was browsing the internet and came across a species of crab called the freshwater pom pom crab (seems to have only entered the fishkeeping hobby this year). It seems to feed on algae and food particles that get caught in the hair on its claws.

They say the crab is compatible with small shrimp and fish, and fully aquatic. This is important, as there does not seem to be any crab currently in the fishkeeping hobby that is fully aquatic, freshwater and non-predatory other than the tiny Thai micro crab, which looks more like a spider than a crab.

Hopefully these freshwater pom pom crabs become more common in the future.

They seemed to be named after the unrelated marine pom pom crabs, which carry small anemones on their claws:
