Hi! I wanted to introduce myself since I'm new. I have 4 opae ula shrimp that came in a biosphere, but I researched some information and decided that it was best to put them on a 17 liters tank. I'm from Spain and there isn't a lot of information here about this kind of shrimp. After some research, I found this blog and after reading, I made the decision to eliminate the sponge filter and a java plant. Now my opae ula are more lively so thank you for all the information! Here are some photos of my tank (before - with sponge filter an java plant- and after) I'm waiting for more decoration such as lava rocks to arrive. When my aquarium is settled I plan to purchase more opae ula.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your tank photos, well done on giving them a bigger tank too, you have probably increased their life span by 15 years :)

Yes! You have saved those little guys from a life of misery and a slow long death.
Well Done!

Have you thought about adding more to the tank and bringing their numbers up?

I just noticed you have wood in your tank, just be aware this will lower your PH level of your water which you don’t want.

@odin, Yes, thank you! I threw it away. I decided to start again, this time with only lava rocks and lava substrate. My opae ula are in a separate tank while this one cycles.
@opae ula related, Of course! This is how my new setup is looking at the moment.

I will update in a few weeks when I can put the shrimps again on it.
