I haven't seen Opae Ula go crazy over it, it's more like a nibble and leave. I haven't seen the hermit crab eat its own, but usually what is left over is the legs so I think Opae Ula eats it slowly.

Here is another video of one without a shell and it getting back in. Kinda blurry a little in the beginning since I never seen it out of a shell and hurried for a video of it.

I once had land Hermit Crabs and they were delightful and interesting pets. The aquatic ones seem to be just the same.

Yup, Opae Ula loves it.
Note, not to get the Hawaiian Reef Hermit Crab with one arm bigger than the other. Those don't live too long in a brackish tank from my experience.
